Who We Are

Welcome to One Child's Village – a nongovernmental charitable organization whose main goal is to provide support for HIV/AIDS orphans.

We identify the children of the world as the most vulnerable members in our global family. Thus we believe service rendered to children is the most sacred. One Child's Village aims to provide the conditions, training and resources needed for the physical, emotional and spiritual well being of children affected by HIV/AIDS.

We are a registered Canadian Charity

Michelle's Skin Graft

Thanks for Your Help!

August 20: Michelle has had her surgery! Charles says: "I have just talked to the Doctor in charge and he says that the surgery was successful. At the moment she is in her private room. She can eat and drink well."

August 19: Michelle was admitted to hospital today. Her skin graft surgery is set for tomorrow morning.

August 17:
We are overwhelmed by your generosity...

In 3 short days, we surpassed our goal of $1,715!

Donations beyond what is needed for Michelle's recovery will go towards a much needed medical fund for the orphans of Mercy Centre. Thank you!

In May, Michelle, age 8, received an injection for a fever. The injection site became infected and resulting dead tissue was removed. She now has no skin from her upper thigh to her knee. Recovery is uncertain without a skin graft and the risk of re-infection is high.

One of our volunteers, Anouk, took care of Michelle while she was in Bumala. She shares Michelle's story with us. Read the story here...

Please visit back for updates on Michelle's progress. And should you be inspired by Michelle as we are, please spread the word.

Projects

The Kenya government has declared HIV/AIDS a national disaster. The rate of HIV infection has increased to 8.5% of the population in the past year. Life span for the average Kenyan is now 45 years, leaving over 1 million children orphaned by AIDS. We are currently working with Mercy Children's Centre, an organization that provides basic needs and education for children in the rural community of Bumala who have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS.

We are presently working towards:

Maximizing financial support for the children is important to us. One Child's Village functions solely on the contributions of volunteers and none of the organization's members are remunerated for their efforts. We attempt to keep overhead costs to a bare minimum, ensuring that almost 100% of the contributions received go directly toward the Village's designated projects.
