3 Wishes for Wellbeing

Ethical giving through One Child's Village means that you are donating money towards a project that can change a child's life. When you "buy a gift" in honour of a friend, a loved one, or for yourself, the donated amount goes directly to buying the item you have purchased. You can choose to send a gift card or an eCard to let the recipient know that they inspired you to change a child's life.

The card will include a photo and description of your Wish for Wellbeing, including the gift amount. You can also choose to have the card sent to your address so that you can deliver it in person.

Make a Wish for Wellbeing in 3 easy steps:

Step 1:   Click on the item you want to "buy". You will be directed to a secure online Giving Page on the CanadaHelps donation site.

Step 2:   Enter the amount you want to put towards the Wish. In the Optional Message text box, indicate the name of the person you would like the gift to go to, and the email address or postal address where you would like the card sent to.

For example, you can write: "To Jane Doe at janedoe@hotmail.com" for an eCard, or enter a postal address instead of an email address for a gift card.

Step 3:   Confirm your gift by clicking Continue and follow the CanadaHelps instructions from there. Payment options are by credit card, PayPal, or Interac.

CanadaHelps will issue you an official tax receipt.

Set for School!

In Kenya, "back to school" happens in January. Although primary school is free, students have to provide their own school supplies. This means education is still out of reach for many children who live in poverty. Mercy Centre School—a school for children orphaned by HIV/AIDS—knows this all too well. With scribblers, pencils, texts, desks, chairs...your donation offers hopeful orphans access to an education that is otherwise out of reach. It also supports teacher training to ensure good quality education and a chance for the children to succeed!

Growing Greens

Support a school that grows its own food! Students, teachers and community members alike contribute to this gardening program by each taking care of one garden bed. Local training in special techniques ensure high-yield crops of kale and other leafy greens, vegetables, nuts and grains to replace less nutritional maize. This means that orphans with vulnerable health are getting proper nutrition. Unused produce is sold for income which goes back to the school. Says the manager of the gardens: "We include community members affected by HIV/AIDS so that they can be appreciated and have a hope of living." This is a gift that keeps on giving!

Sewing for Success

Help empower young women. Equipped with manual sewing machines, material, and knitting supplies, students in this class develop special skills to support themselves. They learn to make uniforms, hoodies, dresses and more to benefit everyone at the school. With your donation, these young women also make clothes to sell in their community, which helps them develop small business skills and generate income. The income goes back to the sewing class and pays for the students' local tailoring exam to make their skills even more marketable. Support a young woman as she takes a step towards self-sufficiency, employment, and a stronger community.
