It takes a village to raise a child. In Kenya right now, it takes more than that. One Child's Village, a non-governmental, non-denominational, charitable organization whose main goal whose main goal is to provide support for HIV/AIDS orphans, is bringing new hope and a brighter future to those children most in need.
One Child’s Village is currently providing for the basic needs of HIV/AIDS-orphaned children in the small village of Bumala, located in one of the poorest regions of western Kenya, Africa. Through the generosity of donors from their first annual fundraiser in March 2007, One Child's Village constructed a school in Bumala for 90 HIV/AIDS orphans, provided clothing, desks and text books, and assisted in the implementation of a nutritious lunch program.
Next on their list of priorities is an on-site water well, shoes for all of the children, additional classrooms and new dormitories for those orphans most abandoned within the harsh realities of poverty. Visit their site at www.onechildsvillage.org
This year’s fundraiser "Rhythm of the People" is being presented at Festival Place on March 30. A true African flavour will be added by a special performance from "Memeza Africa", a 24-piece cast gospel choir from Soweto lead by Jimmy Mulovhedzi the son of the Musical Director of the world famous Soweto Gospel Choir, David Mulovhedzi.
A wide variety of stellar Albertan musicians are coming together to share their valuable time and considerable talents, including: the Bomba Quartet; Stewart MacDougall; Memeza Africa Choir; Christian Mena; Brent Parkin; Lionel Rault; Ron Rault; Mark Sterling and Tacoy Ryde.
This glorious night of music in the theatre will be accompanied by a silent auction in the lobby, with plenty of information and donation opportunities to this worthy cause. The evening will be sponsored in part by CKUA, and luminaries such as Peter North and Lark Clark will be emceeing. A wonderful opportunity to do some good and have fun while doing so; this promises to be an exceptional evening of high quality entertainment.
