PROJECTS
Garden and Livestock
Since the new school was built in Bumala, Mercy Children's Centre has been able to plant a small garden to grow food to supplement the school's lunch program. For many of the children, their only meal of the day comes from the school. This is particularly challenging for the orphans at the school who are HIV positive, as extra caution is needed to remain healthy.
The school has been able to build a small shed to house some egg-hens and milk-cows. Many of the chickens have been donated to Mercy Centre by the grandmothers who have become caretakers of the orphans. During our last visit alone, grandmothers donated six chickens!
