PROJECTS

Kitchen/Storage Facility
(February 2009)

Since the construction of the Mercy Children's Centre school in Bumala, the children have benefited from a lunch program. For some of the orphans, their only meal of the day is obtained through the school. During our visit in June 2008, we saw the makeshift kitchen that was created for the Matron. Although it served its function, it's open concept left the Matron (and lunch!) exposed to the elements. This caused problems during the rainy seasons, not to mention the hygienic risks.

One Child's Village was awarded a grant from the Grant MacEwan Global Education Fund to construct a kitchen with a small storage room to store nonperishable food and kitchen implements under lock and key. Mercy Centre is very excited about this development, as can be seen by the ribbon-cutting ceremony. We are greatful to the Grant MacEwan Global Education Fund for bringing this project to life!
